St. Mary Mercy's 17th Annual Gala celebrated the hospital's Golden Anniversary on October 9 at the Laurel Manor Banquet and Conference Center. The event was well attended with more than 600 guests. The black-tie affair raised more than $200,000 in support of clinical research for the hospital's newly established Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program. This program, which will officially be launched in the summer of 2010, designates St. Mary Mercy as a teaching hospital.
"With the proceeds from the Gala, our medical residents will be in a position to learn the value of research and to serve under St. Mary Mercy's physicians as they develop and provide the best treatments and practices," said David Spivey, President and CEO of St. Mary Mercy Hospital."We are grateful for the support of our community and our generous sponsors to make this possible."
For the first time ever, the Gala provided an exclusive $50,000 sponsorship opportunity to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of St. Mary Mercy Hospital. Hospital benefactors William& Bridget Phillips and their family, representing Phillips Service Industries, Inc., served as the event's special Golden Anniversary Sponsor.
For the third year in a row, Temperature Services, Inc. was the $15,000 Platinum Sponsor. Gold Sponsors at the $10,000 level included Concord EMS (for the ninth straight year), Guardian Plumbing and Heating, Inc. and Mendelson Orthopedics.
At the event, in a room donned in gold accents, guests viewed a commemorative video presentation celebrating the hospital's 50 years in the making, as well as congratulatory messages for the 50th anniversary from key community, city and state leaders including Governor Jennifer Granholm.
