Title
IHA, SJMHS Finalize Strategic Merger
Start Date
12/22/2010
Article
Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) and IHA today announced the completion of their merger, creating one of largest integrated health networks in Michigan.

IHA’s 192 physicians and practitioners will now serve as the foundation for the integrated physician enterprise for these St. Joseph Mercy Hospital markets: Washtenaw, Livingston and portions of western Wayne and south western Oakland counties.

IHA’s Governing Board and shareholders approved the merger this past October with financial terms of the merger not being disclosed.

By coming together, both organizations will utilize their collective strengths to accelerate the achievement of their long-term, complementary, goals. SJMHS is developing an accountable care organization that includes an integrated physician network. The IHA goal is to embody all aspects of the patient-centered medical home with a value-based culture that provides outstanding patient, provider and patient satisfaction.

The alignment of IHA - the region’s largest physician group caring for nearly 260,000 patients - combined with the breadth of services provided by SJMHS – the region’s largest system of community hospitals – gives patients a full spectrum of quality care that is highly coordinated and responsive to their needs.

Additionally, IHA patients are cared for by University of Michigan Health System physicians and facilities. IHA, SJMHS, and their parent organization, Trinity Health, view the University as their primary academic health system partner and look forward to continuing their many joint programs, as well as embarking on new initiatives with the University.
