Title
St. Joseph Mercy Saline to open Urgent Care April 15
Start Date
04/10/2014
Article

SALINE, Mich. - (April 9, 2014) St. Joseph Mercy Saline will open its new Urgent Care at 400 Russell St. on Tuesday, April 15 at 8 am, offering walk-in medical care for the community.

Hours of operation will be from 8 am to 8 pm seven days a week. The Urgent Care will continue to be staffed with the same nurses, technicians and physicians from Emergency Physicians Medical Group (EPMG).

The urgent care replaces the Emergency Department, which will officially close on Monday, April 14, at 9 p.m.  The new Urgent Care fills the need for non-emergency services such as sprains, wounds requiring stitches, rashes and illnesses such as cold and flu.

The Urgent Care at Saline is part of St. Joe's outpatient care network that includes two Emergency Departments and three Urgent Cares in Washtenaw County.
"We look forward to providing continued care for Saline and the surrounding communities, and satisfying patients' health care needs and expectations," said Michael Mikhail, M.D., FACEP, regional vice president at EPMG who serves as regional director for emergency medicine at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

Patients requiring emergency department care once they arrive at the Urgent Care can be transferred to either St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor less than 15 minutes away, or to Chelsea Community Hospital, which is a 30-minute drive.  St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor is a Level II trauma center and certified stroke center with a specialized Senior ER.

An Urgent Care enables the health center to provide an appropriate level of care based on the acuity level and volume of the patients seen at the Saline Emergency Department. Benefits of an Urgent Care visit include high quality care, convenience and value - often resulting in lower copayments for many patients.

The community health center onsite will continue as a resource for education such as drug prevention, nutrition and exercise classes, as well as outpatient services including lab draws and general diagnostics/x-rays.

"We are extremely grateful to the physicians and staff who faithfully serve the community, and are confident the same spirit will continue with the urgent care," said Rob Casalou, president and CEO, St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and Livingston hospitals, who oversees the Saline facility.
