CCH Announces New President and CEO
Start Date

Nancy Kay Graebner has been named President and CEO of Chelsea Community Hospital to succeed Kathleen Griffiths, who will be retiring after 30 years of distinguished leadership.

Graebner, currently the executive vice president of physician strategy and services for Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, Inc. in Greenville, SC, will officially join CCH in January 2012.

A native of Ann Arbor, Graebner brings to CCH more than 25 years of success in health system administration. At Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, Graebner is responsible for many facets of physician market share and growth, achievement of clinical quality and cost targets, medical staff development, recruitment, regulatory compliance, and financial and operational management.

“I am honored to be presented this wonderful opportunity at Chelsea Community Hospital, and look forward to coming back home to Saint Joseph Mercy Health System,” Graebner said. “CCH has a long-standing reputation of providing exceptional patient care, and it gives me great pride to be a part of this growing, respected community hospital.”

“Ms. Graebner’s extensive knowledge and experience in many different key areas will be an asset to Chelsea Community Hospital,” said David Killips, Chair of the Chelsea Community Hospital Board of Trustees. “Her direction and expertise will allow CCH to continue its mission of excellence for years to come.”

Graebner’s extensive career in health care also includes serving as Physician Network Executive for Ambulatory Management Services (Halley Group) at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System in Ann Arbor, Chief Operating Officer at Michigan Physician Services in Bloomfield Hills, and Vice President of Practice Management at Health Directions, Inc. in Chicago.

Graebner holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan, graduating with distinction as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

“Nancy Kay Graebner has an impressive record of working closely with medical staff in developing strong clinical programs,” said Garry C. Faja, President & CEO of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. “We’re confident she will continue Chelsea Community Hospital’s high standards of care made possible by Kathleen Griffiths‘ stellar leadership.

” After 30 years of service to CCH, including 13 years as President and CEO, Griffiths leaves a legacy of outstanding quality of care, constant innovation, and extensive community involvement. During her tenure, CCH has consistently ranked in the top 10 percent or higher of all hospitals nationwide for patient satisfaction and top one percent for physician satisfaction (Press Ganey), as well as the top two percent nationwide for employee satisfaction (HR Solutions).

The announcement concludes a national search process that involved input from Chelsea Community Hospital’s board members, executive management, the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) leadership team, physicians, and representatives from Trinity Health, the parent organization of CCH and SJMHS.
