Hospital aims to raise $80,000 to promote healthy lifestyles in Livingston County
On Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 the Livingston community will gather together at the 28th annual St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Ball to support the hospital’s Healthy Kids & Healthy Families initiative – an effort to help children achieve and maintain a healthy weight and lead healthier lives.
“Childhood obesity is a global epidemic that affects 30 percent of Michigan youth. As a result, we are seeing a growing number of children in Livingston County with obesity-related health issues, including chronic illnesses such as Type 2 diabetes and hypertension, as well as social and emotional distress,” says Rob Casalou, president and CEO, St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and Livingston hospitals. “This event will raise money to help us combat these concerning statistics.”
With the funds raised, St. Joseph Mercy Livingston will offer innovative and engaging school outreach programs and specialized nutrition, exercise and counseling services that encourage family involvement and will be made affordable for those in need.
“Healthy weight is a foundation for overall good health and can contribute to productive sleep, increased energy and ability to focus, and enhanced participation in school and social activities,” Casalou.
Thanks to the generous support of the St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Ball committee, led by co-chairs, Drs. Penny and Mark Baumeier, and Livingston County community, St. Joseph Mercy Livingston seeks to raise $80,000 for this cause. Over the past 27 years, this event has raised nearly $1.1 million for the hospital and its programs.
St. Joseph Mercy Livingston’s black tie preferred Ball is slated for Saturday, Nov. 3 at The Johnson Center at Cleary University in Howell. The cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. and dancing will follow. Nouveauté will provide the evening’s entertainment.
