Welcome to our psychiatry residency program. Our mission as psychiatrists is to help people recover from mental illness and stay well. We have an energetic, enthusiastic faculty with a wide range of skills who are eager to teach you. We are looking for residents who are optimistic, energetic, passionate about helping people with mental illnesses, and eager to learn as much as possible about how to do it.
You will be working with a wide variety of colleagues in two Saint Joseph Mercy Health System hospitals – St. Mary Mercy Livonia and St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor – as well as several different community clinics in order to gain as broad an experience as possible. You will learn to do a comprehensive biopsychosocial evaluation of a patient, identify the patient's strengths, prescribe medications safely and effectively, conduct individual and family therapy in a helpful manner, and collaborate with others in the community who interact with or can help your patient.
Each of you will be involved in a research project, either one you design yourself or one created by a faculty member. We have an impressive array of people to help you do this, including a director of clinical research who has a PhD in biostatistics.
And when you graduate...you will be ready for anything!
