St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Healthy Start/Healthy Families Offers Free Program For New Or Expectant Couples
Program Focuses on Forging Healthy Relationships Between Parents and With Their Children
Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland’s (SJMO) Healthy Start/Healthy Families Oakland program will host a free 15-part course for new or expectant couples called Loving Couples Loving Children.
Beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, the course will focus on:
Strengthening the relationship between parents
Forming a deeper connection with one’s children
Managing stress and conflict
Dealing with intimacy
Conducted in a relaxed group setting, the course will include videos and offer opportunities for participants to share stories and information with each other to gain support and skills. The curriculum is based on the work of Dr. John Gottman and his wife, Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman, international experts in the fields of marriage, family and child development research and clinical therapy.
Dinner will be served prior to each session. The sessions, dinner, child care, transportation costs and materials are free of charge.
Participants who complete the course will be paid a stipend of $200.
The sessions will be held at SJMO Child Learning Center on the hospital campus, 44405 Woodward Ave., Pontiac. Limited spaces are available.
