Women's Night Out Speakers Announced

Workshops, Fashion Show and Dinner Highlight Event

Pontiac, Mich. - St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) has announced the physician speakers for its annual Women's Night Out women's health education event. The event is scheduled to take place 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at the Auburn Hills Marriott-Pontiac at Centerpoint, 3600 Centerpoint Pkwy., Pontiac.

Speakers include:

  • Amy Braddock, MD, general surgeon. Dr. Braddock earned her MD degree with distinction at Wayne State University (WSU) School of Medicine, where she ranked in the top 10 percent of her class. She was a resident and chief resident in General Surgery at Beaumont Hospitals. Dr. Braddock has published in professional surgical journals and given many presentations. She is board certified by the American College of Surgeons.
  • Lisa Helmick, DO, obstetrician/gynecologist. Dr. Helmick earned her DO degree at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed an internship in obstetrics/gynecology at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital and residency in obstetrics/gynecology at SJMO. She is board eligible.
  • Joy Pollard, RN, PhD, ACNP-BC, Registered Nurse and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Ms. Pollard earned her doctorate in Nursing at the University of Michigan, MS and BSN degrees in Nursing at WSU and RN degree at Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing. Ms. Pollard has won Nursing awards and honors and has extensive clinical and teaching experience.
  • Tom Rifai, MD, Medical Director, SJMO Metabolic Nutrition and Weight Management Program. Dr. Rifai received his MD degree from the WSU School of Medicine. During his senior Internal Medicine residency year at Beaumont Hospitals, he was chief resident coordinator of its Nutrition, Preventive Medicine and Weight Control Center. He is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the WSU School of Medicine. Previously he served as Associate Medical Director for The Pritikin Longevity Center in Florida. He is board certified by the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists and American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Steven Stein, MD, FACS, plastic surgeon. Dr. Stein earned his MD degree at the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed an internship in General Surgery at Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit and residencies at Providence Hospital in Southfield (General Surgery) and at the Medical University of South Carolina (Plastic Surgery). Dr. Stein is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons and the American Board of Surgery.
  • Christopher Tisdel, MD, orthopedic surgeon. Chair of the SJMO Division of Orthopedics, Dr. Tisdel earned his MD degree at the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed an internship in General Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Ohio and a research fellowship in Orthopedic Surgery, also at Case Western. Dr. Tisdel completed an Orthopedic Surgery residency at Case Western and a clinical fellowship in Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn. Board certified, Dr. Tisdel has participated in several research projects, given presentations at professional gatherings, served as an instructor and published extensively.

Media personality Lila Lazarus will be the celebrity guest speaker.

Theme for the evening is "Look your best. Feel your best. Be your best." The event will include an overview of women's health and wellness services offered at SJMO to help women on their journey to improve their health and well-being. SJMO physicians will lead breakout sessions on:

  • Cardiology: Women and heart health
  • Plastic Surgery: Advancements in cosmetic surgery
  • Nutrition and Wellness: It's never too late to be healthy
  • Gynecologic Health: Advancements in care
  • Orthopedics: Women and joint care
  • Women's Health: Minimally invasive surgical treatment options every woman should know

Highlights of the Women's Night Out include light dinner, cash bar and dessert; health screenings, a fashion show supported in part by Macy's by Appointment and gift basket drawings.

The public is welcome. Cost of the event is $25 per person. Registration deadline is Oct. 28.
