St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Mercy Volunteer Named President
of SE Michigan Association of Healthcare Advocates

Bloomfield Hills Resident Jean Backlund Named for Honor

Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) announces that one of its Mercy Volunteers, Jean Backlund, was named president of the Southeast District of Michigan Association of Healthcare Advocates (MAHA) at its 63rd annual meeting and educational institute held at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

Backlund, who has accrued more than 3,800 volunteer honors since coming on board in 2000, was Vice President of the Mercy Volunteers and served as chair of the Scholarship and Outstanding Volunteers Committees and the Volunteers in the Alice Gustafson Center/Ambulatory Services Center.  Backlund also has served as the Registration Chair and as President-Elect of the Southeast District of MAHA.  She currently serves on the MAHA Council of Presidents.

“We are pleased that one of our volunteers has achieved election to the top spot of this vital organization,” said Jack Weiner, President and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland.  “Jean is a wonderful representative of all the hard work our volunteers do at St. Joe’s every day.”

Healthcare Advocates provide services, education and leadership training to the MAHA membership in addition to providing support to the Michigan Health and Hospital Association.  This year, 24,866 auxiliaries/volunteers donated 2,536,570 hours of service to their respective health care facilities.  In addition, more than $5.8 million was raised by the advocates to benefit Michigan hospitals.

Backlund is a resident of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
