Edmond Fitzgerald, MD, Named March 2011 Physician of the Month
Start Date

Port Huron, MI…Edmond Fitzgerald, MD, was named the March 2011 St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month. The St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month award highlights a physician’s commitment to working collaboratively to promote patient and community health through clinical excellence and patient-focused care. Physicians honored with this award must also be one whom St. Joseph Mercy Hospital staff and volunteers would recommend to family and friends in the community.

As a retired Internal Medicine physician Dr. Fitzgerald volunteers his time to provide care and treatment of adults through the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health. He was nominated for his dedication and commitment to meeting the medical needs of those in our community most in need, those who are economically disadvantaged and need the clinic to meet their chronic medical needs.

“It has been our pleasure to work with Dr. Fitzgerald for many years at the Peoples’ Clinic,” comments his nominator. “Although he is retired, his dedication and commitment never ceases to amaze us. Almost any time we are in need of a physician to pick up an extra day or to fill in at the last minute, Dr. Fitzgerald is always there for the patients of the Peoples’ Clinic. He looks at our patients as individuals and takes time to listen to all of their concerns and finds a way to address as many as he can. He makes himself available to consult on difficult cases, thoroughly reviewing the medical record to ensure no leaf has been left unturned and no clue unnoticed in the care of a patient. His goal always is to provide the optimum medical care. A great doctor, and excellent diagnostician, Dr. Fitzgerald is well respected as a community leader, and we are proud to entrust our vulnerable Peoples’ Clinic patients into his care.”

“Dr. Fitzgerald is a terrific asset to our health care community,” states Peter Karadjoff, St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron (SJMPH) President and CEO. “His outstanding performance has been noted by those who work most closely with him and has been highlighted through his nomination. I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to Dr. Fitzgerald for elevating the health status of our community through his work and dedication to the patients of the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health.” “Volunteers are important in meeting the needs of our community,” comments Edmond Fitzgerald, MD. “Thank you for the opportunity to serve.”

The St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month is designed to highlight outstanding collaboration between our physician community and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital patient care and volunteer staff. Nominations are accepted from all staff and volunteers, and are blinded and reviewed by a Nominations Review Committee. The award is presented monthly to a physician on staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. To find a St. Joseph Mercy Hospital physician near you, visit SJMPH online at:; or call toll-free 1-888-MERCYME.
