"We are really looking forward to this exciting event," comments Lynn Burgett, Administrator for Mercy Health Center and Lakeshore Surgery Center, LLP. "We began planning in February and think we've really put together an outstanding celebration for the entire community."

St. Joseph Mercy Hospital began building Mercy Health Center on M-25 in Fort Gratiot Township in 1998 and opened the doors to the outpatient ambulatory center in May of 2001. The first of its kind in St. Clair County, the center included a stand-alone outpatient surgery center, one of only two such centers in the state of Michigan at the time of opening.

In 2000, Trinity Senior Living Communities broke ground on Sanctuary at Mercy Village, a seniors residence designed for both independent and assisted living. "We hosted approximately 580 residents since we opened in June 2001," comments Maura Koppel, Administrator for Sanctuary at Mercy Village. "We will be celebrating community at this event. It's simply wonderful being part of the Blue Water area where everyone knows one another, and not only cares for each other, but look for ways to help each other.

"This 10th Anniversary celebration is very exciting for our residents and staff," Koppel concludes, "because so many have lived and worked here in the past 10 years. This truly is a family celebration and we want everyone to come out and join us."

"In addition to free food, music and giveaways, participants will also receive a special free gift," continues Burgett. "This is just one of our little ways of saying thanks to our friends and neighbors throughout the township and into the Thumb region."

Mercy Health Center is located at 4190 24th Avenue, and Sanctuary at Mercy Village is located at 4170 24th Avenue, with the building complex, just south of Lowe's Home Improvement Store on M-25, in Fort Gratiot Township.

The free event will be held from 12 to 4 p.m., Saturday, August 20; ample parking is available. No registration is necessary. To learn more about the event, call toll-free 1-888-637-2963.
