Remarkable Events Planned to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

Port Huron, MI… October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron and the Mercy Regional Cancer Center invites women to have a better understanding of breast cancer risk, screening and treatment. A number of events are planned to support women as they work to maintain proper breast health. Join the award-winning Mercy Regional Cancer Center for any of the following:

FREE Breast Cancer Survivor Luncheon – Saturday, OCT. 1
Join the Mercy Regional Cancer Center for its annual FREE Breast Cancer Survivor Luncheon. Enjoy an inspirational discussion presented by Rose Norton, the local photographer who created “Strength Through Survival – A Pictorial Celebration of the Survival Over Breast Cancer.” This is a unique offering for breast cancer patients, survivors and guests. The program also includes the unveiling of a permanent Rose Norton Art Exhibit; a light lunch and giveaways. The luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Baggot Street Café (cafeteria). Pink Hair for Hope – Thursday, OCT. 6 & Tuesday, OCT. 18
Oasis Hair Company will offer Pink Hair for Hope with pink hair extensions, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the St. Joseph Mercy Baggot Street Café. For a $10 donation you can help to benefit the Mercy Pink Ribbon Fund.

American Cancer Society - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer – Saturday, OCT. 8
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk with registration at 8 a.m. and the walk beginning: 9 a.m. This American Cancer Society event will be held at St. Clair County Community College. For details regarding the Mercy Regional Cancer Center team, call: 810-985-1871.

Pampered For A Cause, brought to you by Studio 1219 – Sunday, OCT. 9
This event will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., at Studio 1219 and will feature women’s retail exhibits designed to pamper you. For details call: 810-984-2787.

Look Good…Feel Better – Wednesday, OCT. 12
Join St. Joseph Mercy for the monthly Look Good...Feel Better session. To learn more about Look Good...Feel Better and to schedule the session, call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345, and ask to be scheduled at the St. Joseph Mercy.

OctoberBreast – Thursday, OCT. 13
Join St. Joseph Mercy for OctoberBreast, a new twist on that traditional fall festival featuring healthy foods. This fun event will take place in the St. Joseph Mercy Baggot Street Café. During regular Café hours, the Baggot Street staff will be serving up nutritious foods and beverages with a breast cancer awareness theme. You’re also invited to Wear Pink to Work this day!      

Reduced-Cost Mammograms – Monday, OCT. 17 through Friday, OCT. 21
Reduced cost mammograms available to women in need for $50. Free screenings may also be available through the Mercy Pink Ribbon Fund. To learn more and to make your appointment at Mercy Health Center, call 810-985-1455.

LUNAFEST – Thursday, OCT. 20
Stop by Studio 1219 for LUNAFEST, a traveling film festival that spotlights the work of a diverse array of talented women filmmakers with intelligent, funny and thought-provoking themes. Cost: $10 donation to the Art of Being a Woman. For details, call 810-984-2787.

Wear Pink to Work Day – Friday, OCT. 21
Wear Pink to Work Day is a quiet way you can show your support for breast cancer awareness. Join St. Joseph Mercy staff in a community-wide show of support by simply wearing something pink to work.

Studio 1219 Bra Finale – Saturday, OCT. 29
Studio 1219 will host its Bra Finale where the most outstanding bra will be awarded. Stop by beginning at 7 p.m. and cast your vote for Mercy Regional Cancer Center entries. Funds raised from this event go to benefit the Mercy Pink Ribbon Fund.
