MERCY REGIONAL CANCER CENTER HOSTS A
REMARKABLE SALUTE TO BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

Port Huron, MI… October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron and the Mercy Regional Cancer Center invite women to have a better understanding of breast cancer risk, screening and treatment. A number of events are planned to support women as they work to maintain proper breast health. Join the Mercy Regional Cancer Center for any of the following:

Throughout the Month of October
Make your appointment for advanced digital mammography at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital or Mercy Health Center in Fort Gratiot. To schedule an appointment, call 810-985-1455.

FREE Breast Cancer Survivor Luncheon – Saturday, OCT. 5
Join the Mercy Regional Cancer Center for its annual FREE Breast Cancer Survivor Luncheon. Enjoy an inspirational discussion presented by Sister Sue Tracy, OP, a Dominican Sister for more than 50 years and a four time cancer survivor/thriver. Sister Sue is a local, state and national speaker on a variety of topics and certified laughter leader with the World Laughter Tour. She is a contributing author in Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul (1996) and Praying Through Cancer: Set Your Heart Free from Fear (2006). The program also includes the availability of Pink Hair for Hope Extensions for a donation of $10. The luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Baggot Street Café (cafeteria). Breast Cancer Support Group – Monday, OCT. 7
Breast Cancer Support Group will host a Survivor Dinner at a local restaurant from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost per person varies. Contact 810-966-3148 for more details.

Pink Hair for Hope – Tuesdays, OCT. 8 & OCT. 15
Pink hair extensions will be provided by hair stylist Rosemary Arnold, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the St. Joseph Mercy Baggot Street Café. For a $10 donation you can help to benefit the Mercy Pink Ribbon Fund.

Look Good…Feel Better – Wednesday, OCT. 9
Join St. Joseph Mercy for Look Good...Feel Better. To learn more about Look Good...Feel Better and to schedule the session, call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345, and ask to be scheduled at the St. Joseph Mercy.

American Cancer Society - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer – Saturday, OCT. 12
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk with registration at 8 a.m. and the walk beginning at 9 a.m. This American Cancer Society event will be held at St. Clair County Community College. For details call: 810-966-3147.

Pink the Rink – Sunday, OCT. 13
Enjoy the 4 p.m. Fighting Falcons’ game at McMorran Arena and stop by the Mercy Women’s Health Center booth to learn about proper breast cancer screening.

Reduced-Cost Mammograms – Monday, OCT. 14 through Friday, OCT. 18
Reduced cost mammograms available to women who lack health insurance and the financial resources to pay. The cost is $50, and free screenings may also be available through the Mercy Pink Ribbon Fund. OctoberBreast – Thursday, OCT. 17
Join St. Joseph Mercy for OctoberBreast, a new twist on that traditional fall festival featuring healthy foods. This fun event will take place in the St. Joseph Mercy Baggot Street Café. During regular Café hours, the Baggot Street staff will be serving up nutritious foods and beverages with a breast cancer awareness theme.

Wear Pink to Work Day – Friday, OCT. 18
Wear Pink to Work Day is a quiet way you can show your support for breast cancer awareness. Join St. Joseph Mercy staff in a community-wide show of support by simply wearing something pink to work.

Artful Fashion Show & Ooh La La Art of Our Women Events – Friday, OCT. 4 & Saturday, OCT. 26
Studio 1219 will host two events designed to benefit uninsured or underinsured women in need of breast cancer screening. To learn more about either of their events, call Studio 1219 at 810-984-2787.
