SJMPH Hosting Health Insurance Marketplace Enrollment Fairs
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 21, 2013
ST. JOSEPH MERCY HOSTING HEALTH INSURANCE MARKETPLACE
Port Huron, MI…St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron (SJMPH) will be hosting two, free Enrollment Fairs to assist community residents navigate the new federal Health Insurance Marketplace. Fairs will take place Tuesday, November 12, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, November 16, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, 2601 Electric Ave., Port Huron.
“The Health Insurance Marketplace officially opened on October 1, 2013 as a provision of the Affordable Care Act. Beginning in 2014, all US residents are required to have health insurance or face a penalty,” explains Chris Fulks, Interim Vice President of Finance and Community Benefit Ministry Officer at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. “Patient Financial Counselors at St. Joseph Mercy have been specially trained to help those with questions about the marketplace and to provide supports as individuals navigate through the enrollment process.
“This fair is open to all community residents, not just St. Joseph Mercy Hospital patients,” Fulks continues. “We are finding there are many individuals in the community are seeking direct help as they make their way through the enrollment process. We are happy to provide that support through our trained financial counselors.”
During the fair, computer access will be available to complete online enrollment, and a trained professional will be on hand to answer questions and provide personal attention throughout the process.
Registration is required due to limited space. Those attending will need to bring the following information: Social Security numbers of all household members seeking coverage (or document numbers for legal immigrants); employer and income information for every member of the household who will be enrolling in coverage (pay stub or W-2 form); policy numbers for any current health plan. Supports will also be provided to those seeking assistance in navigating through the Employer Coverage Tool application.
“We are looking to reach out to the community in a variety of ways over the next several months and help those who are in need of application assistance,” concludes Fulks. If anyone is unable to attend either of these events, please contact the hospital’s main marketplace phone number. Private appointments are available.
