2014 VINEYARDS OF THE WORLD FEATURES WINES AND CELEBRITY AMBASSADORS
Port Huron, MI… The St. Joseph Mercy Foundation is pleased to announce its premier fundraiser "Vineyards of the World" wine tasting event to benefit the Peoples' Clinic for Better Health is planned for Friday, February 28. Beginning with registration at 6:30 p.m., guests can once again experience exotic taste sensations from around the world. The Twelfth Annual "Vineyards of the World", cosponsored by Wright & Filippis, will be held at Fore Lakes Golf Club in Kimball Township.
New this year, local celebrities and community supporters of the Peoples’ Clinic will serve as celebrity beverage Ambassadors, highlighting a number of wines as well as the beer and martini stations. This year’s celebrity Port of Call Ambassadors include: Dawn Lambrecht, MD, Chair of the St. Clair County Medical Society; Paul Miller, radio talent and host of the Morning Show on WPHM-AM 1380; Gary Armstrong, Wright and Filippis and Chair of the Vineyards of the World Committee; Lonnie Stevens, Executive Director of the United Way of St. Clair County; Randy Maiers, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County; the Honorable Cynthia Lane, St. Clair County Circuit Court; Rebekah Smith, RN, President and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron (SJMPH); Robert Camara, DO, Chief Medical Officer at SJMPH; and Jeff Smith, President of All Star Vending and Chair of the SJMPH Board of Trustees. This year’s Martini Ambassador is Pauline Repp, Mayor of Port Huron; and the Beer Ambassador is Nick Reina, MD, a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician.
This year's event offers another opportunity to taste exciting new wine releases from around the world, including: Argentina, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain. Domestic versions from California, Michigan and Washington will also be available. The event will again feature the popular Beer and Martini Tasting Stations. To top off the exotic evening, guests will be provided exquisite hot and cold hors d'oeuvres that have been hand-selected to complement the overall wine tasting experience.
"Each year this event grows in both size and popularity," comments Gary Armstrong, Wright & Filippis, and Chair of the 2014 Vineyards of the World Committee. "This year, we are excited to introduce our Vineyards of the World Ambassadors. These local celebrities will be sharing their knowledge with guests at special wine, beer and martini ports of call throughout the evening, bringing their own personal preferences to our great line up of wines, beers and martinis."
All proceeds from the event support the Peoples' Clinic for Better Health. This event is the centerpiece fundraising event for the clinic. Last year, the event generated more than $54,000 and helped support clinic operations.
"The community has shown incredible interest and tremendous support for this fun and exciting event that benefits one of the most important medical care access clinics in the community," comments Jennifer Smith Deegan, Chair of the St. Joseph Mercy Foundation Board. "We could not begin to fund the Peoples’ Clinic at the level we do without the continued and remarkable support from everyone in the community who attends this event."
The Peoples' Clinic for Better Health is a collaborative project of St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron and the St. Clair County Medical Society. It is funded in part by the United Way of St. Clair County. The clinic provides free medical care to those in our community who are uninsured and lack the resources to pay for their care.
