Marketing & Public Relations

You turn on the radio and hear familiar voices of St. Mary Mercy doctors and nurses. You read the evening paper and catch a news story, photo or advertisement about the great services and staff at St. Mary Mercy Hospital. You pick up the About Your Health community newsletter and get an update on news and health tips from the hospital.

You click on the hospital web sites, read about the hospital in our booklets, brochures, flyers and signs, and notice the “Great doctors and nurses…in your own backyard,” billboard. Our message also plays on the telephone when you’re placed on hold.

Who is responsible for communicating all of this information? The staff of Marketing/Public Relations — that’s who! This department provides information to patients, visitors and the community through internal and external communications, including marketing/advertising, public relations, publications production, corporate identity and web sites.

Media

Working with the media and generating news stories is important to the hospital. Marketing/Public Relations handles all media requests that come to the hospital, and takes calls for patient condition reports. The staff meets and greets all media that come on site, is on call 24/7 for media calls, and coordinates news coverage on the hospital. Also coordinated through the Marketing/Public Relations office are community sponsorships, governmental issues and communications with Trinity Health, St. Mary Mercy Hospital's parent organization.

Marketing/Advertising

A strategic marketing plan guides the rollout of hospital advertising throughout the year. A coordinated plan for print ads, radio spots, billboard, theatre slides and newsletter articles runs throughout the year. This includes the popular “St. Mary Mercy Medical Minute,” a radio spot on WNIC-FM 100.3, that offers health information directly from doctors and nurses at St. Mary Mercy Hospital. Our popular ads feature our very own St. Mary Mercy associates.

Graphics/Publications

Graphic designers on staff in Marketing/Public Relations maintain the hospital’s corporate identity, i.e., our name, "look," and logo. Graphics also develops logos for special use, such as the Service Excellence sailboat, and creates the layout and design for all the organization's publications, newsletters, and other printed materials. In fact, all publication work is done in-house except for printing. The department also oversees hospital displays, facility signage, temporary signs and posters.

Web Sites

The Web has become another common communication method. The hospital web sites — www.stmarymercy.org and the organization's intranet web site — provide an abundance of information for both the public and our associates. Our web sites are in constant flux, and we encourage staff to send us information on their areas to incorporate on both web sites. St. Mary Mercy's web sites are designed, developed and maintained by web developers on staff.
