Program Criteria

GME Standard Criteria

Thank you for your interest in the Graduate Medical Education programs at St. Mary Mercy Livonia. We are excited to embark on this new journey with you. In July 2010, we welcomed more than 40 residents to four different residency programs, and are in the planning phases to implement seven additional programs in the future.

We are recruiting our second Psychiatry intern class to start in July. Recruitment for the Psychiatry Residency Program will take place from October through December. Applications will be accepted only through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). An invitation for interview will be communicated through email. Our program participates in the NRMP Main Match.

Requirements for applicants to be considered for interview include:

  1. Completed application with all corresponding materials submitted to ERAS.
  2. Three letters of reference from a US, Canadian or British equivalent clinical rotation. Personal references are not acceptable in place of clinical references.
  3. Applicants should have graduated from medical school within the past three years and have clinical experience within the past three years.
  4. USMLE: Applicants must have passed USMLE Step 1 before the interview. Preference will be given to first-time takers of the USMLE and not more than one fail in step one. Applicants must pass USMLE Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS before beginning the program. We are unlikely to rank you unless you pass these steps by January 1st of the year you are applying.
  5. Applicant must qualify for a full or unrestricted educational limited license in the State of Michigan.
  6. International Medical Graduates must be certified by ECFMG.
  7. Citizenship, Green Card, Permanent Resident, EAD and J1 visas
  8. If the applicant is applying through the 5th Pathway, they must show documentation of matriculation from an LCME accredited school
  9. Resident transfers into advanced training years must follow all RRC, ACGME, and ABPN requirements. Each case will be reviewed on an individual basis by the program director. In order to be reviewed for possibility of transfer, please contact our office for further information.
