Most important, our team of board-certified emergency physicians and specially trained ER nurses deliver remarkable care with wait times that are significantly less here than most other Emergency Departments.

Michigan's First Senior Emergency DepartmentSM
All aspects of your Senior Emergency DepartmentSM experience are designed with your long-term health and wellness in mind. At St. Joseph Mercy Saline’s Senior ERSM, we've enhanced our geriatric clinical training, enabling our staff to spend more time evaluating your health and medical condition to ensure we're meeting your total needs. A team of board-certified, specially trained physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other clinical staff, including a dedicated care coordinator will assess your personal medical situation and help to identify and address your physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
Our specially equipped area has 10 treatment rooms with access to sophisticated care and aftercare resources. St. Joseph Mercy Saline’s Senior Emergency DepartmentSM is the first program in Washtenaw county exclusively dedicated to meeting the needs of patients age 65 and up, their caregivers and family. During the triage (assessment) process, a nurse interviews the patient to determine if senior emergency careSM is right for you. As the program is personalized, you determine if you want to be treated within the Senior ERSM environment.
We've transformed the physical space in our Senior ERSM as well to optimize your comfort and safety in a peaceful setting, including: softer lighting, non-skid floors, extra thick pressure-reducing mattresses in a private room. Each treatment room offers clocks and telephones with larger numbers. We can provide hearing assistive devices, warm blankets and even items that may have been forgotten in your rush to the emergency department, such as reading glasses.

Our Emergency Department at St. Joseph Mercy Saline Hospital is open 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. When you need to see a medical staff “now”, we are the place to be. Whether it is to treat a minor illness/injury or major life-threatening illness we are here to care for your emergent medical needs. The department is staffed with board-certified or board eligible emergency physicians. Our nurses are specifically trained in emergency procedures and provide remarkable care.
