J. Michelle Moccia Program Director, Senior Emergency Center
Nurse Practitioner Michelle Moccia is the program director of Michigan’s first-ever Senior ER Center, which opened in July 2010 at St. Mary Mercy Hospital. Michelle has been a Registered Nurse (RN) since 1975 and a Critical Care Registered Nurse since 1983, shortly after earning the RN of the Year award at Annapolis Hospital in Wayne, Michigan. She has devoted more than three decades of her life to emergency room nursing, nurse training and the partnering with EMS agencies, community groups and senior care centers to promote the wellness and special care needs of seniors.
Her passion for leadership and teaching others how to care for seniors and other emergency room patients has led to dozens of speaking engagements locally and nationally, as well as being published multiple times in national medical journals.

Kathy Dattolo Senior ER Social Worker
Kathy Dattolo, LMSW, ACSW, has a wide variety of experience putting people first in both hospital and residential settings, with a career focused on serving seniors and their unique needs. Kathy has worked at St. Mary Mercy since 2005 as a Social Work Case Manager, overseeing patient rehabilitation, home care needs, assigning community resources and helping with the psychological adjustments of aging and illness recovery, among many other duties to serve patients.
Kathy’s background, which extends over two decades, includes work with assisted living arrangements, counseling families on issues ranging from finances to quality of life, and when necessary, helping assure dignity for the dying via extensive hospice training and experience. She also has extensive time served with leading support groups for grieving families and children.
Kathy has worked in the St. Mary Mercy Senior ER since its opening in July 2010, helping develop its special programs since the inception.
