The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Services provides a full range of anatomic and clinical tests and services for patients at St. Mary Mercy Hospital and the community. Pathology services are available 24 hours with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. The high-tech Laboratory includes Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Hematology, Pathology, Immunology, Urinalysis and Phlebotomy.

Insurance Contracts

HAP:
Effective May 1, 2002 HAP has an exclusive contract with the Joint Venture Hospital Laboratories ( St. Mary Mercy Hospital Laboratory is a participating member). The following HAP networks are included:

HAP Preferred: All networks

Alliance: All networks

HAP HMO: Beaumont, Botsford, Crittenton, Downriver, Eastern Shores, Farmington Physicians, Ford- Tel, Genesys, Horizon (Bi-County), Independent Physicians of Mocomb, Mapco, Mclaren, Monroe, Mt. Clemens General, NOMC, POHS, Riverside, St. Clair, St. John Health Partners, Western Wayne, and Wayne.
Exclusion: Henry Ford Network

Laboratory Outreach Program

The same quality laboratory service provided to physicians in St. Mary Mercy Hospital is now available to physicians in their own offices. The primary focus of the laboratories outreach program is customer service. The following are some of the value-added extras that are now provided to physicians in the community:

  • Client Services Department staffed by dedicated employees, where a physician who contacts the lab will be communicating with a knowledgeable person, not a voice mail system.
  • Courier Services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Stat Pick-Ups upon request, with results available within 4 hours of request. Routine testing will be completed in 24 hours, in most cases.
  • Membership in The Joint Venture Hospital Laboratory (JVHL), which will allow the lab to negotiate with HMO’s and other third party payers to provide services to patients regardless of their insurance.
  • Laboratory Supplies and forms furnished at no charge.
  • Customized Test Profiles
  • ConvenientPatientServiceCenter (OPD drawing lab)
  • Electronic Ordering and Resulting System offering customized order screens with personalized training and support.

Patient Service Center

The St. Mary Mercy Hospital Laboratory Patient Service Center makes it more convenient for people to have their lab orders drawn. Along with going to the hospital or returning to the physician's office, patients now have the additional option of utilizing the offsite service center. Patients can use their prescription or requisition form and go directly to the Service Center. Most tests do not require an appointment.
