Always bring your identification and insurance card when coming to the hospital for services. St. Mary Mercy is dedicated to protecting the integrity of your medical record and your financial security. We ask for proof of identity at every patient encounter.
Hospital charges are summarized into categories of charges on your bill, such as laboratory, radiology, or supplies. Physicians and other professional providers bill their fees separately from the hospital. You may receive more than one bill from other professionals who assisted with your treatment (i.e. radiologists, anesthesiologists, ER physicians, pathologists).
Most insurance contracts are between an employer group and an insurance company, although some plans cover an individual subscriber or a family.
St. Mary Mercy will bill your insurance company directly. You, however, are ultimately responsible for all charges and we may request your assistance if your claim is denied by your insurer.
Most insurance plans include a patient responsibility portion. In accordance with your insurance plan, we expect the portion that is the patient’s responsibility to be paid at the time of service unless other payment arrangements have been made.
These payments could include deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, fees for non-emergent, non-covered services and cosmetic surgery, and past due balances on outstanding accounts.
We accept the following forms of payment:
Cash, Check, Debit Card, Credit Card: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or online.
We also have an interest-free payment plan available for up to 3 months. If you require extended terms, we will assist you in setting up a longer-term loan with very favorable interest rates.
While many patients have some healthcare insurance coverage, very often there is limited coverage between the plan and what is needed to meet the healthcare needs of the patient. Often, this requires a patient to pay a large amount for services.
If you cannot afford to pay this amount, you may qualify for options listed below. Please contact a Financial Counselor to discuss these options at 734-655-1755.
St Mary Mercy is committed to providing accessible, affordable health care services to its community. In keeping with this goal, we have developed a variety of financial options aimed at addressing the needs of patients without insurance coverage.
Some of these options are listed below as well as links to other sources of information:
Patients will receive a 10 percent discount off balances greater than $200, if paid within 30 days of billing. Please call 1-800-494-5797 to discuss this opportunity.
Uninsured patients above 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Level will receive an automatic 25 percent discount off charges.
Our financial counselors will work with you to determine if you may be eligible for public assistance programs, such as Medicare, Medicaid, MOMs, MI-CHILD and provide resources to apply. You may walk in at your convenience, call 734-655-1755 for an appointment, or visit the Department of Human Services.
HealthFirst Financing provides a longer-term loan program. Terms may extend for up to 60 months. No credit check is required and the approval process is quick and easy. This loan program is available for all hospital balances. While there is an interest charge for the loan, St. Mary Mercy shares in the interest cost with you. An application can be completed at healthfirstfinancial.com/patient and apply with program code STM6065.
St Mary Mercy Hospital does not refuse medically necessary or emergency care. We provide assistance to low-income individuals and those with special health care expenses who live in our service area.
