We are here to help people of all ages, but have additionally expanded focused services for older adults.
We were the first hospital in Michigan to introduce a Senior ER, to best care for older adults in an emergency. St. Mary Mercy can provide the services which allow seniors to live in good health – every day. Our top two guiding principles are to promote healthy aging and to partner with families to be educated consumers of health care. We are honored to serve our seniors in this way.
What is a Geriatrician?
A Geriatrician is a physician who is an expert in caring for older people – care that is focused on active wellness and preventative care to perform daily tasks independently.
Geriatricians have the expertise and leadership skills needed to coordinate services among multiple specialty health care providers, in areas such as hypertension, diabetes and arthritis for example. This is critical to our nation’s health as many estimates suggest that by 2030, the number of adults age 65 and older will nearly double to 70 million.
Specially-certified Geriatricians at St. Mary Mercy Hospital work with teams of nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, surgical specialists, pharmacists, social workers, and physical and occupational therapists to ensure the best health-care for their patients.
